  • Fresh seafoods when you Travel Batanes

    Nov 21

Experiencing Travel Batanes will never be complete without the freshest seafoods served on your dining table.

Batanes, being an island province teems with the best and the freshest seafoods. Everything is just readily available and at a price you would probably never believe.

When I first experienced Travel Batanes last February, we were served with flying fish or dibang lobsters and coconut crabs.

That is why when I returned to this breathtaking province two weeks ago, I made sure never to miss Batanes seafoods again like Lobsters, Coconut Crabs or Tatus and a whole array of fish. Many of the fishes, I do not know its name, but still tastes good.

But what really made my Travel Batanes adventure complete was the 3-kilogram fresh lobster served on our dinner table. It was fresh, I can say. Because it was still moving before it was finally boiled and salted to perfection.

Who could have thought that the seven of us, Melo, Nina, Karla, Gail, Marc, Dino and I have actually consumed all the 3 kilogram goodness! And it was just our first night in Batanes.

During our Day2, we went to Sabtang Island, and for PHP250.00 we were served the best Batanes meal ever! Fried fish, steamed veggies, and coconut crabs.

The meal was really worth it. In fact, coconut crabs are far more expensive than lobsters, and tastes good too. The coconut crabs look weird. They resemble like a half crab half lobster on its front part, but its back is similar to the back of a spider. And when you squeeze it, all the aligue or crab fat will just ooze out.

I know it was really deadly with all its cholesterol, but it was just so yummy. Great when mixed on the rice.

I guess I would never find an exotic seafood fare as cheap as the ones in Batanes here in Metro Manila.

Special thanks to SEAIR and Columbia Sportswear for making this trip possible. And for allowing BYAHILO to enjoy the Best Batanes Seafoods again!

  1. I can’t wait to try coconut crab. Saan ba mayroon niyan na puede kong puntahan maliban sa Batanes?

  2. its very very seldon to find coconut crabs here in Metro Manial, since it is a regulated seafood.

and it is way pricier than the lobster. lobsters in batanes cost 300/kilo while coconut crabs are 450/kilo.

probably more expensive if it gets here in the metro, or if in manila hotels

We are planning a 10 day vaction on the Batanes Islands in February of 2009 and I stumbled over your website which, unfortunately, doesn’t give any hotel information. Please give me a comprehensive list of hotels and inns including their room rates for 2 people. Pictures of the rooms would make our decision much easier. Which rooms have bath tubs? Aircon? Hot and cold shower? Refrigerator? What other ameneties? Is breakfast included? How far and how nice is the beach from each hotel or inn? How do we get their from Manila? How is the weather in February? Warm enough for a beach vacation?

    Sincerely,

    Guenter Falz

  4. this is a food blog so you only get to see foods here . check out my other blog http://www.byahilo.com for some other details

weather during feb is cold. january and feb are the coldest months in the philippines.

there are no hotels in batanes. only pension houses. so dont expect AAA accomodations there. i dont think you can swim on the beaches of batanes. the waves there are just so big.

Travel to batanes from manila is possible via airplane. SEAIR offers daily flight from manila to basco and vice versa
